You won’t need to ruffle any feathers to get compliments on this adorable paper mache bird mobile! In this day-long workshop, local artist Emily McTyre will teach you everything you need to get started (or reacquainted) with this messy but very fun medium!Emily will begin by sharing a brief history of paper mache (or papier-mâché, French for “chewed paper”), along with some of the many possibilities that this medium offers. Then, you’ll learn how to make a simple paste that you can easily replicate at home. Next, Emily will show you how to use paper, cardboard, masking tape, and other readily-available materials to create a basic bird form, which you’ll then build upon to make four small figures.
After lunch, Emily will offer suggestions for decorating your birds, and you’ll spend the rest of the afternoon bringing your little guys (or gals) to life. At the end of the workshop, you’ll learn how to string your birds together to make a beautiful, one-of-a-kind mobile.
No previous paper mache or painting experience necessary; just a curiosity to try a new skill and let your creativity take flight!
