About this Event
The Arc of Oklahoma proudly presents Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: A Lifespan Perspective for Care, Education, and Advocacy, an innovative program designed to educate and inform professionals within Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth and Freestanding Multidisciplinary Teams (FSMDTs). This initiative empowers OCCY FSMDTs to have the knowledge regarding disabilities to advocate for children with disabilities that arrive in their care through plain language and evidence-based learning.
Seating capacity is limited to 30. Once we reach capacity, registrants will be automatically added to a waitlist.
Objectives:
- Professionals will gain an understanding of intellectual and developmental disabilities, their typical diagnosis or disorder, and associated symptoms.
- Professionals will gain an understanding of the impact of intellectual and developmental disabilities on families, education systems, judicial systems and any other relevant systems.
- Professionals will gain an understanding of plain language use for clear understanding during interviews and other interactions with those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Professionals will gain an understanding of the medical model versus social model of disability.
- Professionals will gain strategies to implement all learned material in everyday situations.
