Talk by a Serving Negotiator
About this Event
Our speaker, Garry Hills, is a Police Inspector in Essex Police with over 21 years’ service. His day job consists of overseeing the Operational Support Group (OSG) and the Marine Unit. He is also the deputy Force Lead for Negotiators within Essex Police and an active negotiator Coordinator for the cadre. Garry has over 9 years’ experience of negotiating from a regional and national level, as well as also being trained in Kidnap and extortion negotiation.
He also teaches and assesses on National Negotiator Courses as well as the Kidnap and Extortion courses in the Eastern Region. Garry has worked for many years with AIT, teaching Negotiators how to work with interpreters, as well as giving familiarisation and training to interpreters on how the police negotiators work and what to expect if asked to join in a ‘Negotiators Cell’. He feels that it is always best to be prepared for what you may encounter or experience when asked to join the team in negotiating with people who may be in crisis or held hostage so hopefully this input will give this insight and preparedness for the future.
Talk will include:
• Police Negotiators;
• Negotiator Expectations;
• Briefing to Interpreters & what to expect;
• Interpreters role in Negotiations.
