Join Ann Gagne for an interactive webinar exploring the . This webinar will address the biased and often American-centric assumptions made about language in higher education. Together participants will explore UDL consideration 2.4 “Address biases in the use of language and symbols” to expand on accessible pedagogical strategies that can support the inclusion of diverse languages and linguistic points of view in teaching and learning spaces. We will address the power that terms like “standardized” have to disrupt trust, and the geographical and identity assumptions that come from ethnocentric worldview.
Presenter Bio:
Dr. Ann Gagné (she/her) is Senior Educational Developer, Accessibility & Inclusion, at the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. She has worked in higher education for more than 20 years. Her work focuses on accessible pedagogical strategies and making teaching and learning more inclusive of disabled lived experiences. She has been published in the International Journal of Academic Development, The Handbook of Academic Integrity, and also hosts her ownpodcast on accessible pedagogy called Accessagogy. She has facilitated workshops on accessible pedagogy, accessible event design, accessible social media practices, and trauma-aware UDL.
