A celebration of Latin American women’s voices through poetry, dance and community for International Women’s Day.
About this Event

The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester, together with Colibrí Mexican Folkdance UK and Manchester Central Library, celebrates International Women’s Day with the event “Poetry and Movement”. Representatives of the diverse Latin American communities in Manchester come together to highlight iconic Latin American women writers who have fought for women’s rights across the region, through a programme of dance and literature.

The event will feature a reading of poems by these authors, whose voices have inspired —and continue to inspire— generations of Latin American women. In addition, Colibrí Mexican Folkdance UK will present a traditional dance performance, including a choreography that addresses the issue of femicide in Latin America.

International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements, creativity, and strength of women around the world, and to recognise their essential role in building fairer, more diverse, and more supportive societies.
