Monk’s Jazz welcomes the Austin Youth Jazz Orchestra and Elias Haslanger/Mike Sailors Quintet for an evening of music for International Jazz Day. Sponsored by the Austin Jazz Society, the Austin Youth Jazz Orchestra is under the direction of premier saxophonist and jazz educator Diego Rivera.
This special event celebrates the musical art form and the importance of encouraging young performers to explore, find their voice and excel in it. Central Texas is fortunate to have a thriving live jazz scene and new students coming into that scene are a testament to the welcoming landscape and strong mentoring environment here. We’re proud to celebrate this legacy along with the rest of the world’s thriving jazz communities.
Please Note: This is a live-taping, so we'll be enforcing a whisper-policy! Cold bottles of still and sparkling water will be available for purchase, but this event is BYOB. Ice will be available if needed, wine keys and 9oz cups provided! 22 free parking spaces onsite are first-come-first-serve. Doors at 5:45 PM, Show at 6 PM.
