Intermediate Beekeeping Workshop with Solidago Apiaries at Norbut Solar Farm

10am-3pm (includes a 45 minute lunch break)
This Intermediate Beekeeping Workshop builds directly on the winter Beekeeping Basics class and takes participants inside a live hive. In this hands-on session, participants will work alongside an experienced beekeeper to open a colony, handle frames, and practice reading what they see inside the hive.
The focus of this workshop is developing the skills and confidence needed to safely inspect a hive, identify key signs of colony health, and understand what actions a beekeeper should take in various situations. Participants will learn to move calmly around bees, use tools correctly, and begin making management decisions based on real observations.
This class is ideal for new beekeepers preparing to manage their own colonies or anyone ready to move from theory into practice.
No prior experience is required, though the Beginner Beekeeping Workshop is recommended. Participants must bring their own protective equipment- beekeeping suit/ veil and gloves.
There is the option to add a boxed lunch provided by Norbut Farm’s Chef Dave for an additional $10.
About Solidago Apiaries:
Solidago Apiaries is stewarded by Cornell University certified master beekeeper Lisa Barker. Lisa has cared for bees in many locations in the greater Rochester area and has worked as an educator in the field of farming and sustainability for nearly fifteen years. She is passionate about sharing the joy and wonder of bees with others through teaching, workshops, and community building. In addition to her bee yard in Bloomfield, she stewards the beekeeping operations at Norbut Solar Farm as well as the The Harley School in Rochester.
