AUSTIN -- (For Immediate Release) Interference Fest is a supportive and welcoming environment for those who are curious about discovering new and innovative interdisciplinary performance practices. We welcome you all to join us for the first of a series of events in Spring 2025 encompassing transmedia movement listening improvisation sound art and storytelling.
We want to empower creative communities through our series of performers and workshops with a focus on group building exercises. Our key constituents are (but not limited to) underrepresented communities of artists including those who identify as disabled LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC.
Through playful interactions and thoughtful performances the festival hopes to dissolve the lines between maker and observer and creating an egalitarian environment whereby fruitful and open dialogues on life art creativity and exuberance are explored. Since 2019 Interference artists have stemmed from a multitude of creative backgrounds (dance music literature comedy visual arts and film) with many years of experience behind them.
29th Street Ballroom is wheelchair accessible.
This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
Thanks to our co-promoting partner Nothing Is Sacred.
Marisa Anderson + Jim White
The collaboration between renowned drummer Jim White and acclaimed guitarist Marisa Anderson is a natural union of two of the most intuitive players and listeners working in music. White and Anderson are each very in-demand as collaborators in no small part because of their mastery versatility and highly expressive playing. The duo have each amassed an impressive body of work and remain at the vanguard of their practices due to an insatiable curiosity and delight in exploration of new avenues of expression. Their 2020 debut The Quickening exemplified that daring spirit as an exercise in trust: two musicians who had never performed together before committing those first moments in time to record. 2024’s Swallowtail is a deepening of that trust White and Anderson completely immersed in the moment each attuned to the other fluidly moving as wind and water.
Edith Frost
“Here's where I'm supposed to place my bio. I guess I could point you towards Wikipedia. I had some records in the 90s and 00s all still good and still available digitally & in physical form via the Chicago label Drag City. I lived in Chicago for ten years and lived lots of other places too but am now back in Austin. I've been honored to work with many excellent musicians I should list a few of those here. Everybody asks about Steve Albini! I've also done a lot of touring around the US and Europe so there must be a way to summarize all that without spelling out each step from childhood until now. It's hard for me. But oh yeah I could talk about how I had a few songs in movies too like High Fidelity.“ - E.F.
Edith Frost’s upcoming album "In Space” is out February 28th 2025 on Drag City.
