When legendary tap dancer and educator Leon Collins wanted his students to share their own creative phrases in class, he’d invite them to “keep time”. Standing in a circle, each student would take turns displaying their craft on a personal level, and would do so without hesitation. This invitation to share their pulse of rhythmic beats was an invitation to connect with each other on a personal level. He knew that if he called them into a circle and called it what it was, improvisation, they’d shrink in discomfort. So we invite you, the audience, to share the creative space with us, exploring the intricate relationship between rhythm, music, and the journey of life, as we synchronize, keeping time, together.
