About this Event
Consider this the first volume of the INSTITUT experiment. Every week, a different hypothesis. Underground at 620 Spadina Ave - around the back, through the lot to the steel doors, down the stairs, past the mechanical room, through the swinging wood laminate door...
Vol 1: an exploration in polyphony from two disparate sources. Expect to sing along if you're not paralyzed by goosebumps. A drink or two might be had too - we're celebrating the album release of DEPARTURE, PGM's crossover shanty-step opus.
Come earlier and get inspired by the panel on fighting through art with the creators of THE DIVISION or stay later for a vintage vinyl set of reggae, dub, ska and cumbia from DJ McHI (both PWYC, but you have to register).

PRESSGANG MUTINY are Toronto's Shantymen, dedicated to traveling the globe to discover shanties, work songs and the people who sing them. A quartet of dynamic musicians and tall ship sailors, they've performed extensively at festivals and venues across Canada, the US, and Europe. They were an Official Showcase artist at the 2023 Folk Music Ontario Conference and have showcased at Folk Alliance International.
