The IV will be made up of 4 rounds of 7 minute speeches, breaking to the finals.
Amongst other prizes, the winning team will be awarded the Harrison Plate - a large silver salver named in honour of the late bencher Master Peter Harrison, whose contribution to the Inn and the training of students, particularly in debating, was invaluable.
Judges and Judging Criteria: (N-1)
One important note: The judging criteria for the tournament, particularly in the final, will place emphasis upon persuasive style, delivery and/or wit as well as substance. Our criteria is not fundamentally different from other iv's, but we ask competitors to bear in mind that barristers and court judges may be judging rounds (particularly the final) and will reward the most persuasive speech over the most statistic-laden or factually intricate speech.
Due to us being a specialist postgraduate society with our membership spread across England and Wales we are unfortunately unable to offer crash for this competition.
Timings:
8am - 8:30am Registration ( Pastries, tea and coffee available as we know it is an early start)
8:30am - 9am - announcements
9am - 11am Round 1
11am - 1pm Round 2
1pm - 2pm Hot lunch provided in the Hall
2pm - 4pm Round 3
4pm - 6pm Round 4 (Closed)
6:30pm - 8:30pm Grand Final and Silver Final run concurrently
Followed by a Drinks reception (with bowl food provided).
Ends 10pm
