About this Event
Join performance poet, wordsmith and Walking Dictionary Chris Arning, for an interactive poetry writing performance workshop, Ink and Inspiration. that promises to get your poetic juices flowing. This is the fourth time Chris is running this workshop, due to popular demand. This is a workshop previous participants have commented:
“Chris’s passion for poetry is infectious, and his ability to break down the core elements of poetry made the poems accessible to everyone” Chris Binns
“Your “rapper in a poet” format was brilliant — your passion is truly contagious. Thank you for giving us such a beautiful gift with this workshop” Lili Bai
“I 100% recommend that if you’re curious about poetry and have an itch to scratch there, then get along to Chris’s next workshop” Nikul Shah
Chris will share his passion for poetry and as both artistic practice and technology for transformation. During the course of the session Chris will define poetry, break down classic poems to analyse how and why they have their effects on us and through a series of single, paired and group exercises on core aspects of the craft (FEELING, RHYTHM, FORM, etc) exemplified by excerpts from haiku to hip-hop we will build up our skills, refine our own poem and - if we wish - share it in an open mic!
For Toastmasters seeking to improve their public speaking skills, poetry gives you transferable skills for improved speech writing including: injecting more emotionality into your delivery, enhancing rhetorical effects like rhythm and cadence, widening your vocabulary and even enhanced speech memorisation -by reading poetry.
This is a Berkeley Square Speakers Club event but we welcome those outside Toastmasters.
Due to space limitations and the carefully curated session plan, we are limited to 24 places. This edition of Ink & Inspiration will sell out fast, so get your tickets now
