About this Event

Dr. Veronica Jow and The Avid Sports Medicine team has created a comprehensive set of exercises to focus on joint specific strength training and dynamic movements to decrease the risk of injury and maximize your body’s performance. Joint specific strengthening will not only help you stay resilient through long hours of practice and performances, but will keep you out on the dance floor for years to come.
At this workshop, you will be given the tools to keep your joints and muscles healthy, ask questions, and discover entirely new ways of moving.

Dr. Jow is a medical doctor who holds board certifications in Internal Medicine and Sports Medicine. While practicing sports medicine in the Bay Area for over 10 years, she has taken care of the complete range of patients, from elite athletes, as the Associate Team Physician at UC Berkeley, to underserved patients, as a sports medicine specialist in Kaiser Richmond. Whatever the population, she strives to empower patients to recover through empathy, education, and partnership.
Through medical anthropology courses as an undergraduate at Harvard, Dr. Jow developed an appreciation for the ways that social, cultural, and biological forces influence health and illness. She studied and experienced how the ways we move, think, and feel are interconnected.
Following medical school at Case Western Reserve University, Dr. Jow selected a residency program in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian-Cornell because it encompassed a comprehensive view of adult health and illness in one of the busiest and most diverse places in the country. Throughout the training, she gravitated toward the idea of exercise as medicine and felt most successful with patients who needed help returning to or maintaining an active lifestyle. This led her to pursue advanced fellowship training in Sports Medicine at the University of Connecticut.
She is an Avid exerciser who enjoys various activities, including dancing, basketball, running, rollerblading, and weight lifting. Her most challenging activity is parenting two high-energy kids.
