About this Event
Sign up to take part in this in-person, intensive novel-technologies sandpit event, supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), which is designed to accelerate new, disruptive approaches to tackling infections.
Held at a central London location, this event will bring companies and research groups together to shape future responses to infection transmission by leveraging breakthrough technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital and automation, advanced humanised infection models, and novel diagnostics.
Participants will have the opportunity to take part in sessions designed to spark ideas, foster innovation, and create new collaborative approaches to tackle this urgent challenge and drive forward novel projects.
Interested parties with novel technologies who have not previously worked in this area are also encouraged to register interest.
The programme is supported with £1.5 million funding from UKRI to bring new research communities together and support feasibility studies. The sandpit will shape the call for funding pots of £50,000 to £150,000 to test disruptive approaches to tackling infections. Network support grants of up to £50,000 will also be available.
Overview:
Complementing the work of UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) flagship AMR PACE and epidemic preparedness programmes, the sandpits are being delivered by the Infection Innovation Consortium: iiCON and will look to pump-prime radical new approaches to tackling infections by engaging new communities and capabilities with the challenge.
Held at a central location in Liverpool’s thriving Knowledge Quarter, the event will target disruptive technologies with potential to transform infection prevention and treatment will include new therapeutic modalities, digital and automation, AI, advanced humanised infection models, diagnostic technologies, innovative clinical trial design, personalised treatments, new materials, and innovations in economic and social sciences.
Key elements of the sandpit will include multidisciplinary participation, expert facilitation, structured problem-solving sessions, networking opportunities, access to resources, pitching and feedback sessions, incentives, and follow-up mechanisms for sustained collaboration and feasibility/POC support for prioritised development opportunities that emerge from the sandpit exercise.
The day will be carefully structured with an initial plenary session, breakout discussion sessions to maximise participation and flow of new ideas and plenary reporting.
Please note. the development of new antibiotics and companion diagnostics are out of scope for the new fund, as these are covered by the recently announced PACE initiative.
