About the event
AFSP is thrilled to participate in the 2026 Indy Juneteenth Parade!
This is an opportunity to celebrate freedom, resilience, and community while expanding awareness around mental health and suicide prevention in historically underserved communities. This event is about showing up with compassion, sharing resources, and fostering meaningful connections with attendees from diverse backgrounds.
Your role as a volunteer is incredibly important. By representing AFSP, engaging with parade attendees, and sharing life-saving education and support resources, you help break stigma surrounding mental health and create safer spaces for conversations about hope, healing, and prevention.
The impact of this event goes beyond the parade itself, it strengthens AFSP’s commitment to health equity, community outreach, and ensuring that suicide prevention resources are accessible to all. Together, we can honor the significance of Juneteenth while uplifting communities, promoting hope, and reminding every person that they are not alone.
What will volunteers do?
All ages are welcome (with adult ! Volunteers will play an essential role in creating a welcoming, uplifting, and impactful presence for AFSP during the 2026 Indy Juneteenth Parade. Volunteers will walk alongside AFSP’s parade group, enthusiastically waving to attendees, spreading joy, and representing hope throughout the celebration.
During the parade, volunteers will also distribute AFSP bracelets, 988 crisis support resources, and Indianapolis Out of the Darkness Walk wallet cards to onlookers. These materials provide tangible reminders of support, mental health resources, and opportunities for community connection.
By engaging with the crowd in a positive and compassionate way, volunteers help raise awareness, share potentially life-saving information, and reinforce AFSP’s mission of creating a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Their presence helps ensure the parade is not only celebratory, but also a meaningful opportunity to inspire hope and connect individuals to support.
What will volunteers need to bring or wear?
Wear comfortable walking shoes and water. Strollers, wagons, etc are welcome
