About this Event
Join the Mabo Centre for Native Title and Indigenous Cultural Heritage Law – An Australian Perspective on Thursday May 14, 2026.
This industry training seminar provides an introduction to land rights in Australia, including the theory of native title, the native title future acts regime, and Indigenous cultural heritage law.
The seminar is intended for practitioners engaged in land related projects, that may involve native title and (or) cultural heritage considerations.
Participants will finish the seminar confident that they will able to identify when a possible native or cultural heritage matter may exist and the general procedure around dealing with this. It will provide a solid knowledge base for participants to begin to engage with the often-complex case law, legislation, and accompanying regulatory requirements surrounding these topics.
The seminar includes an opportunity to participate in discussion with a senior Whadjuk Noongar Traditional Owner about how rights and responsibilities to culture and Country are enacted within statutory and regulatory environments.
Participants will be provided with take-home resources providing further information on topics covered during the seminar, referencing the examples and legislations mentioned. It will provide participants with a valuable resource for future reference.
Our aim is that participants will be able to return to their organisations equipped with both technical understanding and on-ground perspective, able to ensure compliance with legal requirements and better equipped to support the self-determination of Traditional Owners.
