With the ngahere/forest backdrop of Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne, this special performance brings together artists from indigenous and diverse cultural backgrounds to create music grounded in connection, collaboration, and listening.Third Spaces Collective explores what can emerge when artists share creative space shaped by indigenous values and approaches. Drawing on cultural difference, improvisation, storytelling, and ancestral traditions, the collective creates immersive new music that moves between worlds and traditions while remaining deeply rooted in place and identity.
Audiences can expect an evocative sound journey featuring taonga pūoro, Sámi joik, Brazilian percussion, flute, prepared double bass, and voice. Together, these artists weave contemporary and ancient sound practices into a living conversation about culture, belonging, and collective creativity.
This project is part of the Voice and Justice Third Spaces initiative at the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki, supported by the Erkko Foundation and Paloheimo Foundation.
This event will be held on the Heritage Lawn and is free for all visitors to attend but sanctuary entry fees apply.
Zealandia members get free entry as part of their membership.
