Soumalya Mukhopadhyay, an Indian slide guitar player, and his wife, Sanchari Roy, a Bharatanatyam dancer, are from Kolkata, India. They are the founders and teachers of Nritya Aalap, a centre for performing arts in Kolkata.
Soumalya Mukhopadhyay is well known for his lyrical playing, incredible clarity, and rhythmic precision on the Mohan Veena, an Indian slide guitar. He began his musical journey at the age of seven and has since won numerous competitions and awards. He has performed in various cities across India and abroad. Soumalya is a recognised artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and All India Radio (Kolkata).
Sanchari Roy is a specialist in Indian classical dance (Bharatanatyam), a performer, and a teacher. She is also a member of the West Bengal Dance Group Federation. She began her training under Smt. Sudeshna Banerjee and continued her studies with Smt. Jalsa Chandra—an eminent Bharatanatyam and Kathak dancer from Kolkata—and Smt. Vandana Alase Hazra. Sanchari has performed extensively in India and internationally.
Toss Levy will accompany Soumalya on the tabla during their performance of Indian classical music. Toss began his studies in Indian music with Ustad Jamaluddin Bhartiya on the sitar. His tabla training was under the guidance of Ustad Lateef Ahmed Khan and Ustad Faiyaz Khan. In 1995, he received his music degree in tabla, with sitar as a secondary subject, from the Rotterdam Conservatory. Toss has performed in numerous European countries, as well as in New York, the Middle East, and India.
