Inclusive and Anti-Oppressive Non-Profit Communications (Part 1) [Live Webinar]

Are you unsure about the most appropriate and inclusive wording to use in your internal and external messaging? Even the most high quality programming, services, and intiatives can fail when exclusive and oppressive language is utilized in non-profit communication materials. Organizations can face significant risks when an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens is not applied to language choices.

This two-part virtual workshops series is designed to help you navigate these challenges by identifying wise practices for language use within non-profit settings. These two-hour sessions include facilitator-led presentations, interactive exercises, and group discussions that equip you with the tools to identify and implement inclusive and anti-oppressive language.

Part 2 of these two workshops will focus on language that relates to disability and 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion. It will draw from wise practices developed within disability justice and queer theory approaches to language choices.

  • Defining inclusive and anti-oppressive langage: Understand that it means to apply an inclusivity lens to language, including the potential risks of not using words that are preferred by marginalized communities that you serve.
  • Learning wise language practices: Learn inclusive and anti-oppressive terminology in relation to disability and 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, including the rationale behind these language choices.
  • Putting learnings into pratice: Apply the knowledge gained throughout the workshop to engage in group language editing activities.
