About this Event

This essential training course is designed to provide your team with the knowledge and confidence to deliver services that are inclusive and accessible to all members of the public. Participants will gain a clear understanding of their legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and learn practical ways to create a welcoming and accessible environment for people with disabilities.

What You Will Learn

Throughout this training, we will explore the key principles of inclusivity and accessibility. The course is structured into four main sessions:

  • Understanding the Law: We will trace the evolution of disability rights legislation, from the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 to the current Equality Act 2010, clarifying who it applies to and what it means for your organisation.
  • Your Role as a Service Provider: This session details your responsibilities, focusing on the duty to make 'reasonable adjustments'. We will discuss how to adapt policies, practices, and procedures to ensure disabled people can access your services without difficulty.
  • Creating Accessible Environments: We will take a practical look at the built environment to identify common physical access barriers. You will learn about effective and achievable solutions to make your premises more accessible.
  • Confident and Respectful Communication: Learn disability etiquette to ensure you and your team can interact with confidence and make people with disabilities feel welcome and respected. This session provides straightforward tips to help remove any awkwardness.

The training concludes with a dedicated Q&A session to address any specific questions and scenarios relevant to your services.
