A person’s shoes are a glimpse of who they are, their style, and personality.Olivia's goal is to showcase these traits through her paintings.
Artist Bio:
Olivia attended college at Lee University and graduated with a BFA of Studio Art with an emphasis in charcoal drawing in 2015. Olivia tells her story of battling postpartum depression, anxiety, and motherhood through her work. She has been able to find peace and therapy by painting her life in hopes to connect with others that also may be going through something similar. Olivia hopes to reveal the feelings that reside within us. Every stroke on the canvas is a testament to the inspiration drawn from life's trials and blessings.
Artist Statement:
I was inspired to create this collection from my mother’s drawing of my grandfather's army boots. I grew up looking at this piece she did and always wanted to do something similar. Shoes tell us a lot about the person who owns them. Every wrinkle, mark, and stain tells a story. I always have my easel setup in my kitchen so I can paint throughout the day while I’m taking care of other things. I’m also never working on just one piece but usually rotating between around five pieces at a time. This is because I like to work in layers. I am a heavy blender which is why I love oil paints because it dries slowly and gives me the time to work on my pieces. I start all of my work by drawing out the composition and then painting a layer of raw Siena in acrylic as the first layer. After that layer dries I paint the sides of my canvases with black acrylic. This again saves me time and speeds up my process. Now I can officially start painting with oils, starting with my darks and then layers of mid tones to lights and lastly highlights. Once my painting is dried it is then varnished and framed.
