Everyone knows the iconic image of Johnny Cash giving the camera the middle finger (Jim Marshall). Or that one image of Amy Winehouse, with her characteristic gaze captured in a fraction of a second. These images have helped shape music history and are embedded in our collective memory. But behind those images lies a profession that is under increasing pressure today. Concert photography is both an artistic and journalistic discipline and a job full of challenges.
During this talk, we bring together professionals from different fields—photographers, lawyers, programmers, and press people—to discuss the future of concert photography. We will talk about:
· Rights and obligations: what is and isn't allowed, and how do we protect both the photographer and the artist?
· Digitization and speed: how does the 24/7 news flow affect the quality and remuneration of photos?
· Collaboration: how can venues, media, and photographers better find each other? What are fair fees?
· Appreciation for the profession: how do we ensure that concert photography continues to be recognized as professional and valuable?
