A three part prenatal series taught by expert perinatal RNs at St. Paul's Hospital.
About this Event

Join us for a prenatal class led by expert registered nurses and lactation consultants.

Saturday May 2 from 9AM-12 PM -- Workshop # 1: Labour and Delivery

Saturday May 9 from 9AM-12 PM -- Workshop # 2: Postpartum and Baby Care

Saturday May 16 from 9 AM-12 PM -- Workshop # 3: Breastfeeding

** Please note that tickets include access to a series of 3 classes and includes you and your support person. **

Evening Series Participant Information

  • We recommend that you start the evening series between 28-32 weeks
  • The workshop cost includes access for both the pregnant person and the support person
  • The evening series includes a tour of the St Paul’s Hospital maternity unit and birthing rooms
  • Please come to the third floor of the Providence building and head towards the maternity unit. Your workshop will be held in the conference room located outside of the purple doors of the locked maternity unit, room 3500.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in and bring a water bottle

WORKSHOP # 1: LABOUR AND DELIVERY

· How to tell when you are in labour

· How to make your labour & delivery more comfortable

· Pain relief options

· What to expect during labour & delivery

· Role of labour support person

WORKSHOP # 2: POSTPARTUM AND BABY CARE

· Know what to expect during the immediate postpartum period

· Understand routine newborn procedures

· Learn about current recommended safe sleep guidelines

· Recognize the different between baby blues and postpartum depression

· Identify ways to increase postpartum comfort for mom

WORKSHOP # 3: BREASTFEEDING (Taught by a Lactation Consultant)

· The anatomy of the human breast and breast changes that occur during pregnancy that are important for breastfeeding

· Understand the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding

· Know how to set yourself up for an abundant milk supply, and learn the technique of hand expression . This series includes access to a colostrum collection kit to start collecting drops of colostrum at the end of your pregnancy

· Understand baby's cues for feeding, and identify how to tell if your baby is getting enough milk

· Troubleshoot and identify potential breastfeeding concerns

· Know when to seek help and where to get it
