Join us at one of Daniel’s favorite sites–Let's remember him by aspiring to observe and document what we see with the same attention he did.
About this Event

Earthwise Aware invites you to join us for the second annual memorial walk honoring our dear friend and benefactor, Daniel Onea, known to us as Dan.

Dan was a beloved and thoughtful naturalist, a keen observer, and a gifted photographer. To celebrate his legacy, we will gather at one of his favorite places to document the living world with the same care, patience, and curiosity that guided his practice. This day offers space to remember Dan through shared stories, quiet reflection, and the field skills he valued deeply.

Dan’s generosity and commitment to EwA continue to shape what our organization can do. In his memory, we invite you to consider supporting EwA’s mission so that his legacy continues. Donations will support the EwA Onea Ecology Internship and the EwA Onea Research Fellowship.

After the walk, those who wish may gather for lunch nearby to connect, share, and enjoy time together as a community.

⚠ IMPORTANT: Please do not register if you cannot attend. EwA events are often waitlisted. If you need to cancel, notify us a few days in advance so your spot can be offered to another participant. Thank you for your consideration.

Limited attendance–Why? EwA caps event size to ensure our field activities remain ethical, low-impact, and respectful of wildlife and habitat.

◇ What to Wear & Bring: If you have binoculars, bring them! We will likely see a lot of coastal birds! The walk will be slow-paced. Dress for the weather (think exposure to wind) and wear long pants to reduce exposure to ticks and poison ivy. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Bring water. There are no restrooms along the trails.
