PREACH Inclusion's next live conversation event, with Jaspreet Kaur, author of Brown Girl Like Me.
About this Event

To mark South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM), PREACH Inclusion is proud to host a live conversation with Jaspreet Kaur — award‑winning author, poet, educator, and one of the most compelling cultural voices of our time.

Event Details:

  • Date: Thursday 9th July 2026
  • Time: 5 – 8pm
  • Location: Newmark, One, FITZROY, 6 Mortimer Street, London, W1T 3JJ
  • Dress code: Represent your culture – something small, something big – whatever takes your fancy!

About the Event

This year’s SAHM theme, “Unity in Diversity,” celebrates the vast tapestry of identities, faiths, languages, and histories that make up the South Asian diaspora, while recognising the shared threads that bind our communities together. Few storytellers embody this theme as powerfully as Jaspreet. Her work sits at the intersection of gender, identity, mental health, and the postcolonial immigrant experience — offering language, courage, and clarity to experiences often left unspoken.

Widely known as Behind the Netra, Jaspreet is the bestselling author of Brown Girl Like Me, a groundbreaking exploration of the South Asian British experience, and an award‑winning spoken word poet, whose performances have moved audiences from Westminster Abbey and the Royal Albert Hall to international stages. Her writing and advocacy challenge taboo subjects, amplify marginalised voices, and invite audiences of all backgrounds to reflect on belonging, resilience, and social change.

Alongside her creative practice, Jaspreet is a respected educator and lecturer at City, University of London, and a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. Her academic work explores identity formation, diaspora narratives, and the politics of representation. As a mother of two, she also brings a deeply personal lens to questions of care, rest, and generational identity.

In conversation with Priya Aggarwal‑Shah, founder and director of PREACH Inclusion, this event will explore how identity is shaped across generations, how we hold both unity and difference within our communities, and how storytelling — especially poetry — can build empathy across lived experiences.

As part of the evening, Jaspreet will perform a spoken‑word piece inspired by this year’s SAHM theme, offering a moment of collective reflection.

This event is open to all genders, communities, and allies — an invitation to learn, listen, and engage beyond the boundaries of our own identities.

A huge thank you to Newmark UK for hosting and sponsoring this event.
