About this Event
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Nelio Biedermann here at Hatchards for an evening of conversation with Pandora Sykes to celebrate the UK launch of his masterful debut novel “Lázár”.
In this sweeping historical epic, inspired by the author’s family history (Lázár is in fact a family name), Nelio Biedermann catalogues the demise of a noble Hungarian family over several generations: from the beginning of the 20th century, through the Nazi era, the ensuing expropriation and deportation by the Soviets, to the Hungarian national uprising in 1956.
Published in Germany and Switzerland last year to widespread critical acclaim, “Lázár”, became an instant bestseller and won the German Booksellers’ Prize. With nods to Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Miklos Banffy, Lázár, marks the arrival of a fresh voice of a new generation, one that feels both modern and timeless.
It promises to be an exceptional and fascinating evening, and we are delighted that Nelio will be in conversation with Pandora Sykes, author of “What Writers Read”.
All welcome!
"Lázár is an exquisite and masterly pronouncement that a gifted young writer walks among us" – Patti Smith
"A truly great writer steps onto the stage" – Daniel Kehlmann
