Each week, one hour of advanced improv classroom time leads into an hour of performance for an audience on the Market Theater stage.
About this Event

Each week, one hour of advanced improv classroom time leads into an hour of performance for an audience on the Market Theater stage.  After the show, 30 minutes of notes, discussion and valuable direct feedback are provided by your instructor. Performances start on the 3rd week of class. First two mandatory classes are instruction only.

Use this performance opportunity to hone your skills and celebrate your progress. Take risks in front of an audience with educational guidance that supports the student performer through the ups and downs of an improvised show. Avoid the trappings of bad habits or default behaviors that can sometimes happen as a student moves from class setting to performance that can inhibit the progress of improvisers.  Enjoy the development of ensemble as the concept of taking care of your scene partner plays out in these weekly shows.

All students are required to be vaccinated to be in a UP class. Please have your proof of vaccination ready to show your instructor at your first class.

Dates: 8 Sunday classes

NOTE: Attendance at the first two sessions of your course is mandatory as it sets the agenda for the entire quarter. If you think you will have to miss either of the first two classes, please register for the next quarter.

Time: 3:30 - 6PM

Location: Unexpected Productions- Market Theater, Pike Market

Maximum Students: 14

Cost: $275 ($287.39 including booking fees)

Prerequisite: 100-500 Classes are a prerequisite to this class/performance opportunity (or equivalent Improv training, with prior approval from Unexpected Productions' Artistic Director). If you have not taken Unexpected Productions classes 100-500, please write to [email protected] prior to signing up and include details as to your prior improv education and experience.

Ages: 18 and above

It is mandatory to attend the first two classes of the quarter. As a performance lab it is crucial that the students receive the class-time instruction and rehearsal in order to meet the standards and expectations for the student shows. If you are unable to attend the first two classes, we ask that you wait to take the class in another quarter when your attendance in the first two classes is possible. While it is understandable for a student to miss a class during an eight-week session the first two classes are mandatory.

**Cancellation policy: If you must cancel before the first class, we offer credit only towards a future class. We are unable to offer refunds. If you cancel after the first class we will not offer credit towards a future class. Again, we are unable to offer refunds.

Unexpected Productions and The Market Theater are located downtown in Pike Place Market, in the heart of Seattle's Tourist District. On foot, go to the main entrance of the Pike Place Market at 1st and Pike. There, you'll find Rachel, Pike Place Market's full-size brass piggy bank, beneath the neon sign and clock, right by the famous Pike Place Fish Company. From the pig, go down the stairs and around the corner into Post Alley, where you'll find the Market Theater, along with the famous Gum Wall!
