About this Event
It will be a quite casual class. All materials, paints, paper and brushes will be provded and I talk you through technique to learn about using the wonderful medium of watercolours.
The workshop will be partially led, but also I want to give you some space to play around and do your own thing (if you fancy it!). It is aimed at those who have never picked up a paintbrush before and don't consider themselves 'arty' (even thought I've been painting a long time now I still always say yes I'm crafty but not arty). Through to those who like painting or maybe drawing but may not have used watercolours, to those who may have played with watercolours before/love them and want to find out a bit more, or not of the above and just wanting to get out meet some people (all welcome basically).
In the workshop we will start by going through some basic technique and just getting used to the paints, and build from there. This class is very much to explore and play with the paints.
The therapeutic aspect is to be interwoven throughout the session informally (partly because I can't help it as I'm a therapist!) and more formally. I just because I believe it's hugely important to do this generally in life. As an adult we don't tend to do as many new things, OR, things we might (heaven forbid) be BAD at! Kids draw just to have fun, not for it to look good, so although we're adults and I know it's pleasing for things to look good to us, the emphasis here will be on learning, having fun and also getting to know the other people in the group.
There will also be some little more formal therapy exercises, e.g. looking at how negative thoughts can get in the way of our creativity (among ALL other things). Similarly we may also gently touch on low mood, perfectionism and maybe some other things (who knows) within the session.
