About this Event
The MImPG (Metropolitan Internet Meets PostGrowth) consortium (ULB, UCLouvain & ISIT) invites you to a hands-on workshop where we will map current concerns and efforts regarding sustainability in the digital sector, as well as future possibilities. Our goal is to identify concrete levers for action.
For whom?
Whether you work in public, private or associative sector and care about sustainable digital futures for Brussels this workshop is for you.
We are seeking participants from a wide range of backgrounds, including:
- Energy and environmental experts who can assess and contextualize the ecological footprint of digital technologies
- Policy makers and regulators working on digital or environmental governance
- Legal and governance specialists engaged with internet regulation, data, and institutional frameworks
- Public sector practitioners involved in implementing digital systems and services
- Network and infrastructure professionals (telecom, data centers, hardware) who understand the technical possibilities and limits of digital systems
- Digital service and platform providers shaping how data and traffic are produced and consumed
- Civil society and advocacy organizations bringing social, ethical, and environmental concerns into the discussion
- Industry and innovation actors developing or supporting sustainable digital solutions
What to expect ?
- Connect with people across the digital sector
- Co-create a shared map of key challenges, current initiatives, and future pathways toward a more sustainable internet in Brussels
- Gain insights from research on impacts and sustainability of internet infrastructure
Here are some questions that you may adress during the workshop:
- Should we expand our fiber or 5G infrastructure?
- What benefits would we gain from switching routers and access points off when they are not in use?
- What impact would limiting bandwidth or favoring specific or essential services have?
- Which services would make internet use more sustainable?
- What policies do we need to reduce the environmental impact of the internet?
- Should we rethink internet governance for more sustainable digital futures?
- What opportunities and challenges do you identify?
Language?
The event will be held in English. However, participants will have the option of expressing themselves in French or Dutch during the activities, if they prefer. If necessary, we will provide interpretation in three languages.
