About this Event
You practised. You tried. And somewhere along the way, someone — or something inside you — decided it wasn't enough.
I'm Good At This, Right? is a gig theatre performance that traces how shame embeds itself in us from a young age, and how it quietly limits what we allow ourselves to become — halting us from reaching our potential and, ultimately, from doing what truly makes us happy.
Co-created and written by Anna Brew, Jack Goodison, and Elsa Orme, the piece weaves live text with a manipulated musical accompaniment performed on flute, bassoon, cello, and double bass — instruments steeped in the traditions and pressures of Euro-centric classical music. Three narrators move through their own stories: childhood beginnings, the joy of early discovery, the weight of expectation (their own and everyone else's), and the complicated terrain of growing up around a skill.
This performance is for anyone who spent years learning something — an instrument, a sport, a craft, a discipline — and arrived at adulthood wondering what the point of it all was. For anyone who "accomplished nothing" with it. For anyone still carrying that.
What was the point of it all? Come find out.
