About this Event
The Italian Cultural Institute of Washington presents the screening of “Il Mecenate”, a movie written and directed by Massimiliano Finazzer Flory, which premiered in Venice on the occasion of the 81st Mostra Internazionale dell’Arte Cinematografica.
The film presents the story of the first patron of art in modern times: Galeazzo Arconati, a man whose contributions to Italian art and culture are immeasurable.
Join us as we uncover the complex personality of Galeazzo Arconati, who, with his love for art and culture, has shared extraordinary pieces with posterity, from the twelve-volume Codex Atlanticus by Leonardo da Vinci to the installment of “Pompey the Great” in his villa, the largest Roman statue to be found in northern Italy. The documentary accompanies the viewer through history, through mysteries and surprises, and myths and masterpieces, all the while showcasing Galeazzo Arconati art collections and donations.
Join us on this journey through time accompanied by the voices and faces of the greatest international experts on Leonardo da Vinci, such as Professor Pietro Marani, Marco Maria Navoni, Prefect of the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana, and by mythology experts such as writer Matteo Nucci and Professor Silvia Romani.
