A poetry evening with Adelaide Ivánova and Clara Amaral. Host: Jimena Casas. Languages: English & Portuguese.
Language is thick, arid, wounded; the animism of words turned poems. They oscillate between inside, outside the page, to and from the body. “If I remain seated no one will see me” is part of a series of evenings at Perdu that insists on relating South American poetics to the local poetry scene. How does our migratory presence germinate? Towards whom, where, when? At what time is it decided to remain in the emotionality of cacophonic words? This evening unites the artistic and poetic practices of Adelaide Ivánova and Clara Amaral.
Adelaide Ivánova orients poems impregnated with piercing gazes. She reverts hatred to horniness to desire; a joke catches the reader off guard. Her poetic mechanisms gather gunpowder, she administers revenge with subtlety, activating a signal in our chests. Adelaide reads from a collection of poems, including her upcoming book Asma. Her readings include a plurality of rhythms, raps and conversations.
Clara Amaral performs Time had Girl’s back. Clara’s reading incites our sensory perceptions and cognitive capacities. She questions time and incites to re-imagine our presence as audience-readers. Her voice suggests suspiciousness while her body intimately orients the listeners towards the text. The circuit of our breathing mimics the choreography of our hands. Poem, premonition, passage. Fingers invert the clock’s hands, oracles overlap. The beginning of the reading is absent, the skin is ashore.
