About this Event
Learn how to identify edible and medicinal plants growing around you. Students will get hands on experience identifying and tasting medicinal plants. We will discuss the honorable harvest, reciprocity, and the plants place in their ecosystem.
This week, we will be identifying and foraging for Dandelion, Violet, and Ground Ivy.
We will also be discussing honorable harvest, reciprocity, and honoring the land. We will also discuss our relationship to the land, invasive species, indigenous land stewardship, and more.
For each plant, we will cover the following topics:
- Medicinal properties
- Folklore/ culture
- Ecosystem
- Identification
- Lookalikes
- Precautions: i.e. don't eat Dandelion if you are allergic to latex.
The class will be wheel chair accessible.
About the Instructor: Eli is an undergraduate at UMD studying Environmental Science.
