Can a student inherit time? What difference does time make to their educational journeys and outcomes? Ahead of Lunar New Year, please join us at this special in-person workshop by Dr Cora Lingling Xu, Associate Professor, Durham University, exploring the idea of 'time inheritance' from her new book, The Time Inheritors: How Time Inequalities Shape Higher Education Mobility in China (SUNY Press 2025).

We will explore the novel concept called 'time inheritance', which reveals how individuals inherit different amounts and qualities of time at familial, national and international levels. It will explore how issues such as first-generation status, class, race/ethnicity and gender shape how we use time and our relationship with time.

Then we will use a 'time inheritance mapping' tool to explore in-depth our own 'time inheritance profiles'. Using insights from these profiles, we will identify potential 'time wealth accelerators' at an individual level and as a group develop strategies to make our communities more time equitable.

Lunch and some Lunar New Year snacks will be provided! 🧧🌸🐎

Please note that this workshop is NOT about time management. For colleagues who can’t stay for the whole session – we will share the mapping tool with all participants via email after the workshop to ensure everyone has an opportunity to experience and reflect on the key concepts.
