Ian Nagoski är en självlärd musikolog och skivproducent baserad i Baltimore, Maryland USA. Under de senaste 20 åren har hans arbete primärt fokuserat på de utövande immigranter från Mellanöstern och Östeuropa som spelade in skivor i USA ca. 1910-1950. Han har producerat ett dussintal cd’er, lp’er och kassetter för labels som Dust-to-Digital, Tompkins Square, Mississippi, Oma333 och Important så väl som över 150 digitala utgivningar på sin egen label Canary. Delar av hans arbete har ställts ut som installationer på Museum für Naturkunde i Berlin, The Wellcome
Collection i London, Peabody-museet i Baltimore och The Centre for PostNatural history i Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Han har gett föreläsningar runtom i världen, från Onasis Stegi i Aten till University of California i Los Angeles.

None of Us Know the Words: Immigrants, Natives, and the Holes in 20th Century Americana berättar historien om bildandet av en mytologisk amerikansk identitet efter andra världskriget genom all den fantastiska musik som utelämnades ur historieskrivningen - nämligen kontinentens ursprungsbefolkningars musik samt den massiva våg av icke engelskspråkiga immigranter under perioden 1880-1920, vars inspelade produktion under perioden 1910-40 motsvarade produktionen av allt engelskspråkigt material både i kvalitet och kvantitet. Det är en entusiastisk och fascinerande inblick i ett USA innan dess hegemoni kom att dominera mycket av jorden, och en påminnelse om vikten av att uppmärksamma marginaliserad musik.
Bio:
Ian Nagoski is a music researcher and record producer in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Over the past 20 years, his work has focused primarily on the immigrant performers from the Near East and Eastern Europe who made records in the U.S. ca. 1910-1950. He has produced dozens of CDs, LPs, and cassettes for labels including Dust-to-Digital, Tompkins Square, Mississippi, Oma333, Important, and others as well as over 150 digital releases on his own Canary label. Parts of his work have been exhibited as installations at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, the Wellcome Collection in London, the Peabody Museum in Baltimore, and the Center for PostNatural History in Pittsburgh. He has given talk-and-listening presentations from the Onasis Stegi in Athens to the University of California in Los Angeles.

None of Us Know the Words: Immigrants, Natives, and the Holes in 20th Century Americana tells the story of the formation of a mythic American identity after World War II through the wonderful musics that were left out of the story -- those of the continent's native populations and the the massive inward wave of non-English-language-speaking immigrants during the period 1880-1920 whose recorded production from 1910-40 equaled the production of all English-language material both in quality and in quantity.
