Join us on Saturday, June 7 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for the opening of I Am Clay: Acoma Life in Figures, the first exhibition devoted exclusively to the figurative pottery of Acoma Pueblo. Admission is free for New Mexico residents.I Am Clay is a community-curated exhibition of hand-built figurative pottery from Acoma Pueblo, and brings together 120 powerful works centered on the women artists who have shaped and sustained this tradition for generations. Tracing historic Puebloan roots and the influence of tourism during the first half of the 20th century, the exhibition reveals clay as culture, memory, and lived experience.
Part of Craft in America's Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Schedule:
1:00 p.m. – Panel Discussion: Hear directly from Acoma potters Prudy Correa, Claudia Mitchell, Marilyn Ray, and Maria Lilly Salvador in a conversation facilitated by co-curator Brian Vallo (Acoma). This is a rare opportunity to listen to the artists whose work and community are at the heart of this exhibition.
