About this Event
We hope you can join us on Friday, August 28th, from 11am-12pm CST for an in-person community gathering about how to get real about hard conversations.
In this workshop, participants will learn communication strategies to approach and successfully navigate difficult conversations with family members and healthcare providers in order to more clearly communicate what their wishes are for their end-of-life plan. Community members will leave learning how to:
- Identify the three main emotional barriers that prevent families from discussing end-of-life plans.
- Learn and practice non-confrontational "I-statements" and scripts for initiating conversations with adult children, partners, and siblings.
- Understand the optimal timing and setting for discussions with healthcare providers regarding Advance Directives, DNR orders, and comfort care requests.
- Gain confidence in clearly articulating your wishes from the Ethical Will and Comfort Nest to your chosen support team.
Whether you hope to gain these important life skills yourself or to help a loved one communicate theirs, this workshop will help you navigate those hard to approach subjects with confidence and ease. Registration is required for this event.
