About this Event
If you want to write a novel but don’t know where to start, or you’ve got part-way through and then got in a muddle, this is the workshop for you. Clear, practical steps to take you from confusion to your own original take on the classic novel structure.
We will cover:
- Creating a clear and concise ‘pitch’ to keep you on track and help you communicate your idea.
- Understanding your genre and what the reader wants from it.
- The classic structure of a novel.
- Archetypal plots and characters and how to use them with originality.
- Scene-by-scene brainstorming.
- Why the sub-plot/s matter, and how to make them matter even more.
- Research and why it’s crucial no matter what genre you write in.
- Creating a synopsis which gives you a clear path to completion (Ideal for plotters) as well as creative freedom (for all the pantsers!).
- Thinking ahead to a book series.
- Practical tips on getting the novel written, from word counts to avoiding writer’s block.
You’ll leave inspired and with a practical list of next steps to follow to make your novel a reality.
You can book for the workshop only or for the workshop + a 121 with Melissa, an hour-long session in which you can discuss the details of your writing and get personalised feedback.
After the event, you will be sent the resource-filled slides from our main talk and a free eBook, Melissa Addey's Merchandise for Authors, which offers a wealth of ideas for using your book as the basis for developing merchandise in the future.
