Jeremy Bentham’s drive to ‘elevate the lives of all’ dovetails with the Institute of Finance and Technology’s core social purpose. The SPACE 2BE aims to create a knowledge-sharing hub for business ideas and entrepreneurs that provides financial laboratories, seminars, networking breakfasts, and Back-to-Basics financial and accounting training beyond the core MSc offerings and to local and City community members.

The impact entrepreneur’s toolbox: How to leverage finance and tech to devise new solutions for a just transition

In the age of climate change, the social challenges faced by our society, such as the housing crisis and the weakening of the welfare state model, are systemic and complex. There are no ready-made answers to these challenges, as we come to terms with the fact that business as usual cannot achieve a just transition for all. Money and technology have a key role to play but need to be combined with a broader set of strategies, tools and skills to devise the solutions for people and the planet.
In the short course (4 lesson, 2 hours each) we will explore how the full design process of such innovative solutions: from problem selection, to ideation, design, financing, test, implementation, and scale. Theory will be discussed through case studies (real life, contemporary, form the UK and internationally) and engaging experts directly involved in the creation and implementation so to learn from innovators and entrepreneurs. The focus will be on financial and digital innovation when is combined with the further toolkit including multi stakeholder partnership, regulation and policy, management and communication.
The course is relevant to students, researchers and professionals who are interested in economic and policy solutions to societal challenges, passionate about impact and sustainability applied to finance and technology. The case study method allows to a broader, intelligent audience to follow. Technical aspects will be covered by literature if and when useful. Engagement with guest speakers will make the format interactive and unique learning experience.
Filippo Addarii brings together theory and over two decades of experience working with public institutions and maker players to tackle the social challenges of our time.
