About this Event

Walt's topic: How can self-care routines be more than routine?

Stretching and exercise are core aspects of many performers’ routines, and there are endless experts who claim to have the correct way to do things. But is there such a thing as the best routine?

Based on core concepts from his book, “Manual Therapy in Voice and Swallowing: A Person-Centered Approach,” physical therapist Walt Fritz will work us through a model that develops the individual’s inner wisdom to leverage the effects of stretching and exercise.

Be prepared with a clean washcloth (for tongue stretches) and minimal to no face/neck lotion or makeup.

VoiceCare BookClub—We all have books we want to read to learn more about the voice, so let's do it in community and meet the authors!

This month we will dive into: "Manual Therapy for Voice and Swallowing" with author Walt Fritz. The afternoon (or morning / evening—depending on where you are!) will be moderated by SVI certified vocologist Beth Falcone. Bring your questions and a cup of your favorite beverage for this informal discussion. Scroll down for more information about these scholars.

Book can be purchased here: Manual Therapy for Voice and Swallowing.

2D Location: Cafe D. in Center City, Holidayopolis (virtual venue via Zoom!)

Walt Fritz, PT has been a physical therapist since 1985 and has been practicing myofascial release (MFR) since 1992. After training with and working for some of the pioneers of the MFR field, he began to move the traditional myofascial release narrative from its historical roots into more modern and accepted narratives of neurological explanation. He has taught MFR workshops to PTs, OTs, and MTs since 2006, with his work being taught in comprehensive Upper Body and Lower Body workshops. In 2013 introduced The Foundations in Myofascial Release Seminar for Neck, Voice, and Swallowing Disorders, directed toward the unique patient population of the speech-language pathologists and other voice professionals. He teaches across the United States, Canada, and abroad.
