Weekly sessions are scheduled for Wednesday's April 2, 16, 23, & 30, 2025.

Times: 8:00 am - 10:00 am- Pacific Time; 9:00-11:00 Mountain Time; 10:00 - 12:00 Central Time; 11:00 - 1:00 Eastern Time

Session 1 – Discuss Developmental Parenting and how HOVRS fits into supporting it. Introduce the HOVRS to home visitors/coaches/supervisors including the tool's purpose, goals for using it, a brief description of how it fits into the developmental parenting framework, and how it is related to child outcomes.

Session 2 – Training on the first 2 scales of HOVRS – Relationship and Responsiveness. Strategies related to the scales and how to score the items. Including tips for building relationships with families and being responsive to their goals and strengths.

Session 3 – Training on the second 2 scales of HOVRS – Facilitation and Collaboration. Strategies related to the scales and how to score the items. Including tips to engage families in the HV activities and work with them as a team.

Session 4 – Discussion of how to use HOVRS and data for coaching, self-reflection, and goal setting.

There are no refunds for missed sessions and trainings are not recorded.

Trainer

Gina A. Cook, PhD a Professor of Psychology and Child Development received home visiting services as a young mom, later became a home visitor in an early intervention program, and is currently a consultant to Early Head Start, Head Start, and Early Intervention programs on home visiting best practices and curriculum development. With over 25 years of work and research in the field of home visiting and early education, she has been extensively involved in developing and evaluating early intervention programs for children and families in populations facing challenges of poverty, disabilities, and dual language acquisition. Her research examines how caregivers, including parents and early childhood professionals, support young children’s development, through home-based and center-based early intervention services. Dr. Cook is a co-developer of the PICCOLO (Parenting Interactions with Children: Checklist of Observations Linked to Outcomes) measure of developmental parenting and the HOVRS (Home Visit Rating Scales) observational measure of home visitor effectiveness.
