Simon and Garfunkel nailed it when they sang, "April, come she will. When streams are ripe and swelled with rain..." And we certainly have had our share of flooded roads lately. But no matter...it is always dry and cozy at BaseLine and we invite you to join us on Saturday, April 18th, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for an evening of acoustic folk and traditional music! April's host is Chris Sorenson. Chris is a guitarist and banjo player who has been immersed in music since a young age. He enjoys a wide range of acoustic styles from Flatt & Scruggs and Ricky Skaggs to Don Williams and Eric Clapton. In addition to performing, Chris is a talented luthier, crafting custom banjos, parts, and accessories for players across the country. His work has even made its way onto the Grand Ole Opry stage and beyond! As host, Chris will play two songs and introduce the performers throughout the evening.
Our feature for April is the Rose Mountain Quartet. The quartet first played for us in January last season in an open mic spot. We immediately knew we wanted to hear so much more and asked them to feature this season. And here they are! The ensemble consists of family members and long-time friends who share a love for traditional folk and bluegrass music that centers on story-telling songs and expressive instrumentals. Although the musicians have known each other for nearly 15 years, they've only recently begun performing together, making this a special opportunity to experience their collective sound. The quartet features John Shaheen and Maggie Zakem on guitar and vocals, Dotty Sorenson on cello, and Stephanie Sorenson on fiddle and vocals. They have been busy practicing and look forward to sharing a lively collection of spirited tunes! The Rose Mountain Quarter will perform a 30 minute set beginning at 8:00 p.m.
We hope to see you on the 18th and remember what Mark Twain wrote if you are feeling somewhat wonky this time of year: "It's Spring Fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want....oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache you want it so!"
