Learn more about Hope and her process:
My journey into the world of pressed flowers began in my flower garden where I discovered the beauty and peace that nature offers. I find joy there with my family, gathering inspiration from the vibrant colors and delicate shapes of the plants around us. It was the thought of incorporating this beauty into my art that led me to pressing and flower preservation.
As a pressed flower artist, I have the pleasure of working with some of the most beautiful materials imaginable. My favorite species to work with are native plants, and even those which many would consider to be weeds. One of the things I love most about pressed flowers is the transformation they undergo. The flowers and plants will always retain certain aspects of their old-selves, but there is something in their preserved, pressed state which makes one look at something they are used to in new ways. I would hope the drama of my pressed flower collages would give people the opportunity to pause and remind themselves there is beauty in this place, and every place, if they only take the time to see it.

Process:
All flowers & plants are collected and traditionally pressed by me with a flower press. I do not use any chemicals, recolor or reconstruct my flowers. They have kept their vibrant color from the way that I have pressed them and all the care and attention that goes into taking care of them while they press for 2-4 weeks.
The flowers are arranged into compositions and glued on French archival watercolor paper, typically 16”x20” or 22”x30”. Museum quality archival adhesive is applied by hand to each flower for permanent placement.
