Hootenanny: Jon Dell, Olivia Ellen Lloyd, and Brian Revels Live at Cafe Wha? | Sunday, December 14th| 5PM Doors, 6PM Show
Jon Dell: Jon Dell is an American songwriter, guitarist, and music educator. Currently based in Brooklyn, his upcoming release “I Love You & Wish You The Best” explores weighty topics such as terminal disease, lost love, second chances and most things in between. All this, while still maintaining his trademark gallows humor. The fact that his songs tread the line between dolor and blissful jubilance so well is a testament to Dell’s deftness as a storyteller and his uncommon sensibilities as a songwriter. Having played in bands since his early teens, he has played hundreds of shows coast to coast, sharing the stage with artists such as Charley Crockett, BJ Barham, Justin Wells, Wayne "The Train" Hancock, and many, many others. He is preparing for a deluge of tour dates in the fall in 2023, be sure to keep a weather eye open.
Olivia Ellen Lloyd: Olivia Ellen Lloyd will try anything once. From flight attendant school in Dallas to producing theater in New York and teaching in Guatemala, Lloyd sought adventure but struggled to find a greater sense of purpose - until she found her way back to music.
Her self-funded and independently released debut album Loose Cannon has been quietly winding its way into the hearts and minds of Country and Americana music lovers all over the world. Currently sitting pretty at over 1 million streams on Apple Music and Spotify, Loose Cannon was featured on numerous best-of lists (Ear to the Ground notably named it their Album of the Year), received praise from Nashville Lifestyles, Rolling Stone Country, Holler Country, and The Bluegrass Situation, and made it onto editorial playlists on Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music. Her 2020 single “Shepherdstown'“ was named one of Tidal’s best songs of 2020 on their Rising Folk playlist.
She was a 2024 Songwriter Serenade finalist (top 6) 2021 NewSong Music finalist (top 3), and was named a 2023 Newfolk Winner at the legendary Kerrville Folk Festival.
Her 2022 release of a duo of Hazel Dickens songs received attention from Bluegrass Today, the Bluegrass Situation, and made Spotify’s GrassRoots and Women of Bluegrass editorial playlists. Her sophomore album is currently in production, produced once again by her dear friend and creative collaborator, Mike Robinson.
Lloyd is a West Virginia native and proud of it. Raised by a musician and a public school educator in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, her sound is a combination of her deeply rooted past and her fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants present. She's continuing to mine that divide as she tours the country full time in her 2010 Toyota Sienna.
Brian Revels: Brian Revels is energy and angst in a comet trail of music that is as perceptive as it is entertaining. He hearkens back to an earlier time, a bygone era when words were true and hearts were strong. His observations of Americana ring with authenticity, with the rawness of earth, the clarity of rainwater and the depth of the sky.
He’s a wily veteran of the Atlanta, Georgia music scene, a multi-instrumentalist, a natural-born storyteller with a poetic edge. He helped to build the band City Mouse into a regional force before it was finally time to step out on his own.
He’s from folk and blues and country and bluegrass, an alternative to them all and a better man for their influences. The hole he’s worn in his guitar is not as large as the one he’s worn in his heart with the cares of the lives he hopes he can redeem one song at a time.
Be sure you see him now so you can say you knew him when – before the wider world discovers him and lifts him away. His timeless musicality will touch your soul with the drama and the significance, of love lost and regained, of the human frailty that reduces and yet ennobles each of us.
