Holy Trinity Catholic High School is a separate school division high school in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Since opening in 2011, its mantra has been the trinity of Arts, Academics, and Athletics. The band program has been an integral part of the school since its inception, graduating many successful student musicians who have performed in honour bands and gone on to study music professionally. We have had incredible opportunities to perform original works by Canadian composers including Vince Gassi’s 2021 work ‘Lights of the Aurora’, performed for our 10th anniversary during the Covid-19 pandemic, and ‘Clock with No Hands’, commissioned by Danielle Wahl for her father Bill Wahl, a noted Albertan bandleader. Our Senior Concert Band prides itself on a dedication to hard work, responsibility, and community by taking part in music festivals, performing for local schools, and supporting school culture through pep rallies, liturgy music, and other opportunities that arise in the course of an academic year. We are particularly proud of the ‘Superior’ ranking from the 2022 Alberta Festival of Bands that earned our students their nomination to the 2023 National Music Festival, an event at which we earned Gold Standard, the highest level acknowledged by the festival. Senior band students rehearse every other day for an hour and a half, performing literature that crosses from pop to classic band staples, seeking to push our personal and collective boundaries, showing the strength of our relationships and attitude through our music.
