About this Event
Kōnane is one of Hawaiʻi's oldest strategy games. Suppressed after Western contact, it nearly disappeared. Today, Uncle John Kaʻohelauliʻi of Hawaiian Checkers has spent over a decade bringing it back.
On May 8, he brings his two-hour workshop to Seattle. You'll learn the papamū, the ʻiliʻili, the moves—and the Hawaiian philosophy of resource management and decision-making embedded in every game.
Part of Holoholo Kōnane—a Hawaiian Diaspora x Hawaiian Checkers initiative. Hosted at yəhaw̓ Indigenous Creatives Collective, an intertribal Indigenous arts space on Coast Salish territories in South Seattle.
Free and open to all. Space is limited — reserve your spot.
