It is a festival of colors to play with dry powdered color "Gulal"
Gulal is the colored powder traditionally used during Holi celebrations. It is thrown in the air, applied on faces, and used in playful celebrations among friends and family.

Originally, gulal was made from natural and herbal sources such as:

• Flower extracts – like marigold and palash (flame of the forest)
• Turmeric (haldi) – for yellow
• Neem leaves – for green shades
• Sandalwood powder – for fragrance and skin benefits
• Beetroot powder – for pink/red tones
• Henna (mehndi) – for green

These natural colors were skin-friendly and even believed to have medicinal benefits, especially during the seasonal transition from winter to spring.
