About this Event
“When love doesn’t work, we hurt.” ~Dr. Sue Johnson, Hold Me Tight
At the heart of this hurt is a longing for emotional safety, closeness, and reassurance. When doubts arise about our partner, ourselves, or our relationship, we want to believe that we deserve love and that our relationship can improve. Hold Me Tight® is based on the premise that long term love in romantic relationships is our birthright and that we are stronger and better people when we find our safe havens and secure bases in our loved one’s embrace.
We created this offering with our communities in mind: those who identify with immigrant backgrounds, experience cultural or generational differences in their love relationship, or seek a culturally responsive and inclusive space to reconnect and grow.
We believe support becomes more accessible and approachable when it feels welcoming, culturally attuned, and grounded in shared lived experiences. For many couples, educational workshops like Hold Me Tight® offer a comfortable first step, a gentle way to explore their relationship, learn new tools, and consider whether deeper therapeutic work might be helpful.
The workshop offers free pastries each morning. Lunch will be on your own. Coffee, tea, and water will be available throughout the workshop.
Hold Me Tight® is a 2-day weekend workshop led by Sally Chung, PsyD, ABPP and Yuwei Wu, LMFT, who treat couples and individuals with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). For more information about the facilitators, please visit their websites.
Coming from cultures and communities that aren’t widely represented in relationship building spaces, we welcome couples whose difficulties may be rooted in differences in culture, acculturation, tradition, or identity. The goal of this educational workshop is to help you repair, enhance, and grow your love relationship.
In this workshop, you will learn how to:
- Better understand romantic love
- Better understand your own and you partner’s emotional responses and leaves
- Describe and navigate negative interactions/spirals that create pain and distance
- Shape the positive moments of teaching and responding that create a secure bond
