Join Anne Endicott and Len Otto of Troutdale Historical Society as they revisit the early history of the Multnomah County Fair—pies, “ponies” (aka horse racing), pig races and all!
Learn how the fair originated in 1906, when a group of friends gathered at the Gresham home of Mr. and Mrs. John Shattuck and laid plans for Gresham’s “First Fair and Carnival,” later known as the Multnomah County Fair.
The Gresham Grange sponsored the fair on what is now the Gresham Little League park, which soon outgrew that location and moved north of Powell, becoming the Gresham Town Fair. The county sold that land in the late 1960s, and our beloved fair ended its Gresham run, moving to the Expo Center in North Portland.
