Join Jonah McDonald and Zana Pouncey, the authors of the Hiking Atlanta's Hidden Forests series, for a 2-mile hike at Blue Heron.
About this Event

Come meet Jonah McDonald and Zana Pouncey, the authors of Hiking Intown Atlanta's Hidden Forests and Hiking Metro Atlanta's Hidden Forests at one of the best nature preserves in their books: Blue Heron Nature Preserve in Buckhead.

Jonah and Zana will discuss their process of writing these guidebooks, provide suggestions for other hikes to take, and lead a 2-mile hike along the trails of Blue Heron Nature Preserve. We'll pass pollinator gardens, waterfalls, and wetlands while hiking the dirt trails and boardwalks along Nancy Creek and Mill Creek.

Buy your signed copies of the books as you register today, or get them on the day of the program.

A big thank you to the Blue Heron Nature Preserve for hosting this event! If you're looking to support a nature non-profit, Blue Heron is very worthy of your donations.

Where to meet: Enter Blue Heron Nature Preserve from Roswell Road and follow the short driveway to park near the main building. Bathrooms will be available before we start our hike

What to bring: Wear appropriate closed-toe footwear, dress for the weather, and bring a refillable water bottle and hiking sticks if you need them. We will be standing and walking at a gentle pace for almost 2 hours, on varied terrain with some slopes.

Dogs: This program is not appropriate for dogs, so please leave your pup at home.

Weather contingency: This program will be postponed if it is raining.

Walking distance: 2 miles

Exposure: Almost all of this walk is fully under shaded tree canopy, with a few sections of trail with sun exposure. One short stretch is next to busy Roswell Rd.

Trail surface & accessibility: This program follows a combination of single-track trails and boardwalks and is not accessible for chair users or strollers. The trails are less than 3 feet wide and have roots and rocks. Some trails are steep, including one portion that includes walking steep steps up a rock outcrop. Consider bringing hiking poles if your balance requires them. Questions if this program will work for your mobility? Contact Jonah: [email protected]
